Reading
I love reading, and often wish I had more time to relax with a good book.
Some of my favorite books include:
|
|
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
|
-
Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli - This tale of a poor gypsy boy during the holocaust
made me cry the first time I read it. It is an incredible book.
- Speak
by Laurie Halse Anderson - This is an amazing book, and I will not spoil for you by giving
any plot details.
- Et Si C’etait Vrai
(in French) by Marc Levy - a young doctor gets into a car accident and goes
into a coma. This book tells her experience while she is in a coma, and her struggle
when her mother and the doctors finally decide to give up on her. This book is a great blend of medicine, fantasy, and law..

Me with my friend dressed as the golden snitch at the Harry and The Potters concert the night that the seventh and last Harry Potter book came out (July 21, 2007). |
- Harry Potter
- I’ve read them in English, French, Spanish... and it goes without saying that I was in line on July 21, 2007 to get my pre-ordered copy of the final book. However, if for some strange reason you have not read this book yet, I warn you to NOT read the epilogue! It is very cheesy and you will wish you had just stopped before reading
it.
- The Color of Water - A memoir by James McBride, where he tells his own life story and that
of his mother, exploring race, religion, identity, and more.
- My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult – As a great blend of law, medicine, and ethics, Anna sues her parents
for her right to her own body after having been born to donate organs to her sister.
This book made me cry twice, and the twist at the end is ingenious.
-
Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine - My very favorite childhood book, and also the movie (which came out on my birthday!) which most disappointed me, Ella Enchanted is the story of a girl "blessed" by the fairy Lucinda with the gift of absolute obedience. An ingenious twist to the story of Cinderella, this
book still remains my favorite fantasy book. However, do not watch this movie!
- The
Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold - The main character, a teenage girl, is murdered within the fist chapter after being raped.
The Lovely Bones is set in heaven with her looking down at the aftermath of her own death and the mystery of her murderer.
I am always looking for a good book to read. Please tell me about your favorite books.
