Politics
My interest in politics stems from my interest in every other issue going on, from healthcare to the environment, from education to poverty. The best way to combat all of these problems in our society at once is through politics. Why are we
wasting so much money abroad in a war to nowhere which is creating more chaos and
terrorism, while America remains one of the only western nations not to provide
healthcare to its citizens? As Winston Churchill expressed, "You can judge a country by the way it treats its elderly, its poor, its sick, its unfortunate, its children and its animals." Following my convictions, I spent the summers of 2006 and 2008
volunteering with political campaigns:

Me with my fellow Obama Fellows in our office in July 2008. We were
responisble for most of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (Lower Merion, Upper Merion, and Conshohocken)

- Lois Murphy (PA-6) for Congress Campaign in 2006 - I was a volunteer coordinator during the summer of 2006 and the couple months leading up to election day in November. I made countless phone calls, entered data, went canvasing, recruited volunteers, and taught volunteers to do the same.
- Barack Obama for President in 2008 - I was an
Obama Organizing Fellow
in June and July 2008, and we were responisble for most of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (Lower Merion, Upper Merion, and Conshohocken). I did all of the same things
as I did for the Lois Murphy campaign (described above) in addition to setting up the office, organizing volunteers, registering voters, and planning events such as phone banking, canvasing, voter registration, and house parties. It was an incredibly
rewarding experience, and I got to talk with and debate with people across the political
and cultural spectrum. Our work certainly
paid off - Pennsylvannia registered the most new voters among any state that summer,
and Obama ended up winning here by an unexpectedly
large margin.Yes we did!
- I am also the president and founder of the political activists club at my school, Lower Merion High School. Our goal is to promote political activism
for both ourselves and our community. If you go to Lower Merion and would like either
to join or to know more, please contact me!
